Los Angeles adds funding for Shadow Hills horse crossing
A long-planned signalized equestrian crossing at Sunland Boulevard and Johanna Avenue has received another city funding allocation after years of delay.
The Los Angeles City Council approved more than $400,000 in additional funding Tuesday, bringing the project total to $892,500, ABC7 reported. The crossing is intended to give riders a safer way through the busy Shadow Hills intersection.
Location: Sunland Boulevard at Johanna Avenue
Planned improvement: A rider-activated HAWK crossing beacon
Total funding: $892,500 after the latest council action
Designed, but still waiting for construction
The intersection was added to a city list of recommended equestrian crossings in 2012. The council approved $455,500 for the project in 2021, but the beacon was not installed as construction costs and public-works requirements increased.
LADOT told ABC7 that the crossing has been designed and is ready for installation. Councilmember Monica Rodriguez said the city is working to include it in an early-2027 bid package, though residents remain cautious after earlier schedules slipped.
