City crews are staging pumps, clearing drains and preparing for possible road closures as wet weather threatens low-lying coastal neighborhoods.

Published October 9, 2026

Rain is expected in San Diego from Saturday, October 10, through Tuesday, October 13, while high tides could compound localized flooding in Midway, Mission Beach and other coastal areas, the City of San Diego said Friday.

Flood risk: Low-lying areas, including Midway and Mission Beach

Possible road closures: Frontage Road and Pacific Coast Highway in the Midway area

Resident assistance: Up to 10 empty sandbags per household with proof of city residency

Storm preparations underway

City crews are cleaning storm drains, clearing channels, inspecting flood-control infrastructure and placing temporary pumps where they may be needed. San Diego’s Storm Patrol will monitor flooding, downed trees and other hazards, and officials may close flood-prone roads before conditions worsen.

Residents are urged not to drive, walk or ride through floodwater. Storm-related flooding or downed trees can be reported through the Get It Done app or by calling 619-527-7500; life-threatening emergencies should be reported to 911.

Empty sandbags available

Limited supplies of empty sandbags are available at 11 recreation facilities across the city. Residents must bring identification showing San Diego residency and supply their own sand.
