CAL FIRE raised containment to 60% in an update posted at 5:10 p.m. Sunday. OCFA posted the revised damage assessment earlier Sunday after officials completed additional surveys.

Via La Mirada remains closed to vehicle traffic north of Esperanza so emergency crews can continue working. Officials also said the burn scar remains an active fire-hazard area and is closed until further notice.

Fire: Norte Fire

Current size: 570 acres

Containment: 60%

Federal assistance: FEMA Fire Management Assistance Grant

Current evacuation orders: None

Orders lifted: Effective October 17 at 6 p.m.

Continuing closures: Via La Mirada north of Esperanza and the burn scar

Initially ordered out: Roughly 16,000 residents

Homes damaged or destroyed: Seven

Firefighter injuries: Two heat-related injuries

Cause: Under investigation

Residents allowed to return

Orders for San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano were lifted Saturday evening. Residents should continue to follow the official evacuation map and local alerts because access restrictions remain around the burn area.

Federal grant covers eligible suppression costs

The Governor's Office said the Fire Management Assistance Grant is provided through FEMA on a cost-share basis. It allows local, state and tribal agencies responding to the fire to seek 75% reimbursement for eligible fire-suppression costs.

Damage assessment increases to seven homes

OCFA's Sunday update says seven homes were damaged or destroyed, revising the earlier count of six. Original reporting documented two firefighters with heat-related injuries and roughly 16,000 residents under mandatory evacuation orders at the fire's peak. Capistrano Unified dismissed nine schools early and canceled after-school programs and sports.

This remains a fast-changing emergency. Residents should follow official evacuation maps and local alerts for current orders rather than relying on an earlier acreage or zone list.
