Firefighters rescue two women and four dogs from rising Santa Ana River
A San Bernardino County swift-water team used an inflatable boat to reach the group after Sunday’s rising river turned their location near E Street into an island.
San Bernardino County Fire said crews were dispatched at 11:58 a.m. Sunday to the Santa Ana River near E Street in San Bernardino. Two women and four dogs were stranded as the river rose around them during the weekend storm.

Firefighters fitted the women with life jackets before taking them back across the water. The department said the four small dogs were secured in a mesh bag for the trip because they were excited during the rescue.
The same agency reported a separate rescue earlier Sunday involving two people trapped in rising water in a tunnel on Fairfax Drive. Firefighters used a ladder truck after overhead power lines made a helicopter extraction unsafe.
