Rancho Cucamonga police warn residents after hidden cameras found near homes
Police are investigating two camouflaged devices discovered near homes in northwestern neighborhoods over the past two weeks.
Rancho Cucamonga police issued a warning after hidden cameras were found near homes in two separate incidents, CBS Los Angeles reported Wednesday. Investigators said both devices were discovered in the northwestern part of the city within the past two weeks.
Area: Northwestern Rancho Cucamonga
Reports: Two separate camera discoveries in the past two weeks
Devices: Small cameras or phones with attached batteries, concealed with tape, leaves or nearby landscaping
Status: Separate investigations are open; no related arrests had been announced
Why police issued the warning
Police said this type of surveillance can be associated with residential burglary crews scouting houses. A hidden device may be positioned to watch a driveway or door and help establish when residents come and go.
Authorities described signs residents should watch for, including small electronic devices beneath bushes, in trees or near fences. The devices may be paired with external batteries and disguised to blend into landscaping.
What remains unknown
Police had not identified suspects or announced arrests connected to the two cameras when CBS Los Angeles published its report. The department opened separate investigations, and officials had not said that a burglary was directly tied to either device.
