Firefighters rescue dog trapped in van after PCH crash near Malibu
A driver escaped with one dog before rescuers freed a second dog from a van that had crashed into the surf near Deer Creek. Neither dog appeared injured.
Ventura County firefighters and California State Parks lifeguards rescued the trapped dog after the white van veered off Highway 1, struck rocks and came to rest in the water Saturday near the Ventura–Los Angeles county line.
Crews carried the dog to the roadway
The driver got out with one dog, but another remained inside as waves reached the wreckage. Responders accessed the vehicle, safely freed the animal and carried it back to the road, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The department said neither dog appeared to be hurt.
Ventura County Fire, Federal Fire Ventura County, California State Parks lifeguards, Gold Coast Ambulance and the California Highway Patrol responded. CBS Los Angeles published its report Sunday evening, October 4; the Los Angeles Times also reported the rescue that afternoon.
