The roadway failure followed a water-main break reported late Wednesday morning. Aerial video from local television stations showed the front half of a Spectrum van below street level while water continued flowing through the area.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews and firefighters responded to shut off the water and assess the damage, according to local reports. Nearby streets were closed while crews worked at the scene.

Location: Franklin and Normandie avenues, Los Feliz

Impact: Service van trapped; nearby streets closed

Known status: No injuries had been reported shortly after noon

Cause remains undetermined

Officials had not announced what caused the water line to fail or how long repairs and street closures would last. Early reports also had not confirmed whether anyone was inside the van when it began to sink.
