Los Angeles zoning officials are weighing whether to revoke the operating permit for the Murphy drill site, a 32-well facility on West Adams Boulevard in Jefferson Park, the Los Angeles Times reported October 3. A City Planning staff report says the associate zoning administrator may discontinue the use, change existing conditions or impose additional conditions after reviewing the record.

What it means locally

The city report for case ZA-2026-3203-RV lists possible violations of operating conditions and agency notices, including 27 odor complaints recorded by the South Coast Air Quality Management District from January 2024 through June 1, 2026. Operator E&B Natural Resources disputes that the record shows the site creates a legally defined nuisance or harms public health. No closure decision has been made. The Los Angeles Times reported that neighborhood councils may comment through October 5, the operator may respond through October 19, and a city decision could take months.
