L.A. launches markers for historic Latino businesses
A new citywide recognition program is starting in Boyle Heights, where three longstanding businesses and cultural venues are being honored for their roles in Los Angeles history.
KABC reported that HistoricPlaceLA Revealed: Latino Los Angeles will place markers on lampposts outside designated sites. Each marker will include a QR code that connects visitors with photographs, historical details and stories about the location.
The first three: The Paramount LA, Candelas Guitars and El 7 Mares
Citywide plan: Historical markers at 140 Los Angeles sites
Boyle Heights institutions lead the rollout
The initial honorees represent several parts of neighborhood life: The Paramount LA has hosted performers since opening in 1924, Candelas Guitars is a nearly century-old family business, and El 7 Mares has served Mexican seafood in the community for decades. The initiative is intended to make those local histories easier for residents and visitors to discover.
