Los Angeles approves DASH bus-lane camera expansion
Up to 50 cameras will document vehicles blocking designated bus lanes and stops, with mailed warnings beginning November 2.
The Los Angeles City Council adopted a plan Wednesday to expand automated bus-lane and bus-stop enforcement to DASH buses. The action designates 12 street segments as transit-only lanes, adopts an updated license-plate-reader policy and directs the Department of Transportation to report back after one year.
Warning notices: Begin November 2, 2026
Citations: Begin January 1, 2027
Fine: $293
Planned equipment: Up to 50 cameras on DASH buses
Where the cameras will operate
The first phase covers 20 buses on downtown DASH routes A, B, D, E and F, plus 10 buses on the Pico-Union route. A later phase adds 20 buses serving Crenshaw, Panorama City/Van Nuys, Watts and Wilshire Center/Koreatown.
LADOT says traffic officers will review each evidence package before any citation is issued. A 60-day test on downtown routes A and F recorded more than 3,400 potential violations. The agency says keeping stops clear allows buses to reach the curb and lets operators safely deploy wheelchair ramps.
