More than 1,000 cyclists ride through Los Angeles to protest traffic deaths
The Critical Mass ride traveled about 10 miles from Koreatown to Grand Park, ending with a die-in honoring people killed in traffic crashes.

More than 1,000 cyclists gathered in Koreatown on Friday night for an L.A. Critical Mass ride and die-in calling for safer streets, ABC7 Los Angeles reported September 26. The roughly 10-mile ride began near Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue and continued to Gloria Molina Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles.
What it means locally
Organizers said the Grand Park die-in lasted 220 seconds—one second for each person they count as killed by traffic violence in Los Angeles during 2026. Riders honored several recent and past victims, including 16-year-old Hernan Martinez, who was killed in a Hyde Park hit-and-run. L.A. Critical Mass and Streets Are For Everyone were among 43 community organizations that recently sent city leaders a letter seeking a local emergency declaration and broader street-safety action. The accompanying photograph shows a separate Los Angeles cycling event in 2010 and is not an image of Friday’s ride.
