Rockslide closes Agate Street beach access in Laguna Beach
No injuries were reported after part of the bluff collapsed below the stairway; city crews closed the access and a geologist is assessing the site.

A rockslide below the Agate Street beach-access stairway in Laguna Beach prompted the city to close the area after the bluff gave way on September 29. Fire and Marine Safety crews responded, and no injuries were reported, according to the City of Laguna Beach and SFGATE reporting published September 30.
What it means locally
The city said a geologist would survey the site and asked residents and visitors to stay out of the area and follow all posted closures. The collapse occurred during a period of strong surf and elevated coastal water levels, but officials had not announced a cause for the rockslide. Nearby coastal damage has also raised concerns about erosion, making the closure important for people who use the popular stairway and shoreline access. The accompanying photograph shows a rocky stretch of the Laguna Beach shoreline in 2016 and is archival; it does not depict the September 2026 rockslide or the closed Agate Street stairway.
