Kings rally falls short in 5–4 overtime loss to Sharks
Los Angeles erased a two-goal third-period deficit to force overtime, but Igor Chernyshov's second goal ended the comeback with 1:42 remaining.
The Kings answered after San Jose built a 4–2 lead early in the third period Saturday night. Chernyshov settled the game in overtime, finishing a feed from Macklin Celebrini with a shot under goaltender Anton Forsberg's right arm.
Comeback secures one point
Chernyshov finished with two goals and an assist. Tyler Toffoli, Kiefer Sherwood and Nolan Allan also scored for the Sharks, while Yaroslav Askarov made 31 saves.
Adrian Kempe, Quinton Byfield and Artemi Panarin each had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles. Erik Haula also scored, Brandt Clarke had two assists and Forsberg stopped 20 shots.
The overtime defeat left the Kings without a win through their first two games of the season.
