Tkachuk lifts Panthers past Kings 2–1 in Los Angeles
Matthew Tkachuk broke a third-period tie, and Florida held on to hand Los Angeles its third straight loss to open the season.
The Florida Panthers beat the Los Angeles Kings 2–1 on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena, with Tkachuk scoring the deciding goal at 11:20 of the third period.
Final: Panthers 2, Kings 1
Kings scorer: Alex Laferriere
Goaltending: Darcy Kuemper stopped 26 of 28 shots for Los Angeles
Early lead does not hold
Laferriere put the Kings ahead with one minute left in the first period after a loose puck reached him near the left circle. Los Angeles then had a 5-on-3 power play that carried into the second period but could not extend the lead.
Seth Jones tied the game at 3:49 of the second, shortly after the Panthers returned to full strength. Tkachuk later finished a rush set up by Sam Bennett, slipping the puck through Kuemper for Florida's first regulation lead of the season.
Kings remain winless
Jacob Markstrom made 19 saves for Florida, which closed its season-opening road trip with its first victory. The Kings have earned two standings points from three games but are still looking for their first win.
