Fontana recycling-yard fire sends thick smoke over Slover Avenue
Firefighters battled a second-alarm fire in a large metal-debris pile at a Fontana recycling facility Wednesday as Santa Ana winds pushed flames toward adjacent commercial properties.
The fire was reported Wednesday morning at AIM Recycling in the 14000 block of Slover Avenue, near the 10 Freeway. San Bernardino County Fire identified the incident as a second-alarm commercial structure response at 14187 Slover Avenue.
Television video showed ladder crews directing water onto the burning pile while a thick plume of smoke rose over the area. The Fire Department said winds were pushing the fire south, creating an exposure risk for neighboring businesses.
