Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas celebrates passing U.S. citizenship test

The veteran Los Angeles infielder used the Dodgers’ playoff bye to return to Miami for a milestone he had spent months preparing to reach.

Miguel Rojas said he passed the U.S. citizenship test after traveling to Miami during the Dodgers’ bye before the National League Division Series.

Hometown: Los Teques, Venezuela

Arrived in the U.S.: At age 16 as a professional baseball prospect

Major-league career: 13 seasons

A family milestone

Rojas told reporters he pursued citizenship for his family and his children’s future. The 37-year-old said his baseball career gave him the opportunity to learn the country and its culture, something he does not take for granted.

MLB reported before the test that Rojas had studied U.S. history and civics during spare moments late in the regular season. A first-round playoff bye allowed him to make the trip without missing a Dodgers game.

Final season with Los Angeles

Rojas is in his fifth season with the Dodgers and has said he plans to retire after the postseason. He was part of the club’s 2024 and 2025 World Series championship teams.

The citizenship test is a major step in the naturalization process. This report follows Rojas’ own account that he passed the test and does not independently characterize the timing of any later oath ceremony.
