State workers set four Southern California strike lines
California government employees represented by SEIU Local 1000 plan a one-day walkout Wednesday, with regional picket lines from downtown Los Angeles to San Diego.
The Associated Press reports the union’s first statewide strike is set for October 21 after its contract expired in June. Local 1000, which represents more than 100,000 state employees, is seeking higher pay, increased state contributions toward healthcare and more flexibility for remote work.
Southern California strike lines: Los Angeles, Norwalk, San Bernardino and San Diego
Regional hours listed by the union: 7 a.m.–4 p.m.
Duration: One day
Union and state positions
The union describes the action as an unfair-practice strike and accuses the state of failing to bargain in good faith. The California Department of Human Resources told AP that departments have contingency plans for possible service disruptions and said the state remains available at the bargaining table.
The union lists Southern California pickets at the Ronald Reagan State Building in Los Angeles, Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, the Rosa Parks State Building in San Bernardino and the Mission Valley State Building in San Diego.
